Today I researched into PEGI Ratings, in order to ensure that our game was appropriate for our target audience and therefore capable of being displayed within our exhibition - running into a slight problem.
Through this research, I discovered that our game may get a higher PEGI label than expected, possibly awarding our game the 16+ rating - because of our core mechanic of hacking. With the description for PEGI 16 including the depiction of criminal activities, it brought concern whether the hacking mechanic would be considered a criminal activity. To investigate this problem, I researched into other hacking related games and their ratings, finding that there are other games that feature hacking with an equivalent of PEGI 7 or lower, only earning higher ratings due to their complex language, not the activity of hacking. With these results, and further research, we reached out to members of the media and asked their opinions; resulting that our game would be suitable for the PEGI 7 nature of the exhibition.
With extensive research, I feel that this task was very successful because I learnt more about age rating in media (Both video-games and film & TV) as well as answering the question of whether our game/demo would be suitable for our exhibition.
